Maternity / Childbirth Education Classes

Preparation for Childbirth:
This Lamaze-style class includes breathing and relaxation techniques, birthing and medication options, the role of the labor coach, cesarean birth, early newborn care and a hospital tour. It also includes a guest pediatrician lecture and an optional breastfeeding class. This class is taken in six, two and a half-hour sessions: Monday and Thursday evenings over three weeks, -OR- six consecutive Saturday mornings, or, take our two-day condensed version, in two, eight-hour Saturday sessions. Childbirth Refresher Class
We also offer a "refresher version" of this course for those who have already taken a childbirth class, had a recent birthing experience, or simply need a review. This class is offered on Sundays in one, three-hour session. Cost: $35 per couple (includes resource guidebook)
Baby Care Basics
This 2 1/2 hour class is for those who want to learn the fundamentals of baby care and infant development. It is ideal for expectant or adoptive parents. Some of the topics covered include:
Recognizing and responding to your baby's cues. Daily care of your baby: bathing, feeding, illness and sleep issues, choosing a healthcare provider, stimulating your baby through play, creating a safe environment, and adjusting to parenting.
Classes are offered on Wednesday evenings. Cost: $25.00 per couple (includes resource guidebook)
Infant & Child CPR
This course is designed to teach parents about issues that affect child safety. Topics include infant and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including mannequin practice and choking management. While this three-hour class will teach basic skills, it is not a certification course. This class is offered Wednesday evenings.
Cost: $25 per couple, $10 for each additional participant (includes resource guidebook)
Sibling Preparation
This 1 1/2 -hour class is offered on Sunday afternoons and is designed for children ages 3 1/2 to 8 years old. Gives children the opportunity to discuss their new roles as brothers or sisters. Instructors will discuss sibling's emotions, such as jealousy, provide a hospital tour and show a special film titled, "Hey, What About Me?" One adult must accompany the child and all children receive a participation certificate.
Cost: $15 per child (includes a surprise gift bag)
Registration and Payment Information
Registration for all classes is required. Classes fill up quickly, so early registration is recommended. We suggest that classes be completed about four weeks prior to the mother's due date.

You may pay for the class or classes you are registering for before you attend simply by stopping by the Patient Registration Office at the hospital anytime before the day of the class. The Patient Registration office is opened from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays.
Tours
Tours are included in our Prepared Childbirth classes. However, if you would like to tour the maternity unit separately, please call (972) 394-2207
Other Class Offerings
Breast Cancer Support Meetings
This support group is open to breast cancer survivors at any stage. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month from 6:00pm to 7:30pm in Conference room 2 and dinner is provided. To register, please Contact Robin Eastland, Breast Cancer Facilitator at 972-394-5502.
Surgical Weight Loss Program Educational Seminar
This educational seminar is open to anyone who is interested in learning about the different surgical options available for controlling obesity. It is led by Frank Veninga, M.D., Program Director. Classes are held on the second Thursday of each month, at 6:30 pm in Conference Room 1 on the first floor of the hospital. Call 1-888-587-4648 to reserve your seat. Surgical Weight Loss Program Support Group
Trinity hosts a support group for those patients who are considering, or have already had, bariatric weight loss surgery. The support group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30pm in Conference room 1 on the first floor of the hospital. This group welcomes all patients, including those whose surgery was performed elsewhere. To register, Call 1-800-945-7997.
Prestige Care Lunch and Learn
On the fourth Wednesday of each month, our Prestige Care members enjoy a free lunch and educational seminar at the hospital. Topics are health-related and are geared toward this senior adult audience. Prestige Care is open to seniors 55 and over.

SafeSitter� Class
This seven-hour program teaches 11 to 13 year-olds how to be safe, nurturing babysitters. Students get hands-on practice in basic lifesaving techniques so they know what to do if a crisis should occur. They also learn safety and security precautions as well as basic child development.
